The problem with this rush for data acquisition is that teams have been swamped with a sea of largely unstructured, unconnected data, from which they are expected to draw insight.

2018 will see the conversation continue to shift toward the identification of the metrics that are actually useful, and the work to connect these metrics to draw a more holistic picture of an athlete’s data. The coming year will be less about measuring every aspect of a team or athlete’s performance, and more about working to make the hordes of data collected actionable for the coaches that eventually put them into use. This has been part of the sports analytics conversation for some time, but 2018 should be the year that clubs and organizations finally get it right.”

I am back with eSports in this post, it is such a fast growing market!

Now I would like to describe how companies will take advantage of this. Since the interest in eSports is fairly new, the market is growing and changing quickly, giving new opportunities to start a business in this area. Of course, companies do not aim only to sell videogames: there is a huge market behind the merchandising and events organization.

The first important considerations are related to the kind of fans that are interested in eSports: young people, between the ages of 16 and 28. This information is important to understand – the target of eSports. In traditional sports, on the other hand, the audience is much more differentiated and therefore it is harder to develop specific communication strategies.
Merchandising is a huge source of revenue: it includes the sale of game-related equipment (joysticks, headphones etc), but also gadgets like t-shirts with the characters face printed on them, caps with the name of the game etc.
The most popular games attract more people and therefore they require the organization of bigger events. In Las Vegas, for example, new arenas were built to host eSports competitions. Moreover, bootcamp spaces for players have been created so that people can meet and spend time together while playing in rooms with fast-speed internet connection.
Las Vegas has also found a way to integrate eSports events together with its most popular activity: gambling (I dont know if that is an advantage in the long run…)

In conclusion, the world of eSports is a fast-growing and unpredictable environment, where new games appear and disappear quickly. What is certain, though, is that there are huge possibilities for companies to invest in this market.

We are touching it with the new regional project in gamification, run by Peak Region, this is why this is an important matter also for us here.

The big difference with traditional sports is that each team compete in different games, they are not specialized exclusively in one. The organization of eSports clubs reflects this melting pot of games: fans are usually not interested in just one videogame, but follow several of them.

The interest of the audience for a certain videogame changes over time and, therefore, new games are played in competitions, while others disappear. In fact, clubs receive new requests from publishers that want them to play their game, since this gives a huge visibility to their product. The most popular games attract so many fans that they stay on edge for a long time, without losing their popularity.
For sure, we will see the popularity of eSports growing more and more in the next years, since they are able to bring a completely new concept of sports.

I am reading in Scientific American about the top ten emerging technologies in the world, really cool and futuristic, here are some examples:
Technologies that pull moisture from the air – they are solar powered!
AI that sees like humans – amazing!
Ultrasensitive blood tests promise to improve cancer diagnosis and care!
Sustainable communities – instead of just “greening” a house, entire blocks of homes are[]

I am reading in Scientific American about the top ten emerging technologies in the world, really cool and futuristic, here are some examples:

My brain is working full force to connect all these new innovations to Internet of Sports. We will be working with AI in the project, but there are so many more crossovers that can be done. New innovations take time though, and the project has less than 2 years left in operation.

In sport, it is important to get the best out of an athlete, in order to guarantee the highest performance possible. Science has always given support to sport in order to reach this goal.
Nowadays, science is working on a new challenge: making athletes finish a marathon competition in less than 2 hours. Projections say that this goal will be accomplished in 2025. However, companies are putting their efforts[]

In sport, it is important to get the best out of an athlete, in order to guarantee the highest performance possible. Science has always given support to sport in order to reach this goal.
Nowadays, science is working on a new challenge: making athletes finish a marathon competition in less than 2 hours. Projections say that this goal will be accomplished in 2025. However, companies are putting their efforts into the development of technologies that could help making this happen earlier. In fact, in 2017, thanks to the project “Breaking 2 attempt” (Nike), this goal has almost been achieved: during a marathon in Monza, the winner completed the competition in only 2 hours and 25 seconds.
Different technical aspects and different parameters have to be analyzed in order to enhance an athlete’s performance. One of the most important aspects is the ground reaction force, that provides information about the interactions between foot and ground. Therefore, biomechanical models have to be created in order to optimize the push of the foot on the terrain and, from this point of view, the shoe can make a big difference in the athlete’s performance and therefore it has to be designed accurately.
Technology offers new solutions to monitor different parameters while the athlete is running. This is possible placing some wearables on the athlete’s foot. These devices are made up of inertial measurement units, sensors that are able to measure accelerations, angular velocities and magnetic fields in order to get information about the position and orientation of an object.

How can sport help reaching this goal?
Let’s think about the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016: this event has been an opportunity to create a social business and the International Olympic Commitee (IOC), for sure, has got powerful means to do it. A simple idea, as an example, could be this: the IOC could promote and deliver a social message against drugs with a slogan and make a social business in rehabilitation.
Moreover, the continuous growth and evolution of technology can be a helpful and powerful tool to improve our lives, but we have to make sure that we use it in a way that doesn’t threaten our planet. Let’s think about artificial intelligence and machine learning, for example: we should develop and deploy these technique in such a way that can guarantee the well-being of everybody.
We wish that any company will give its contribute to create a social business and build a world of three zeroes.

Google Cloud Platform architecture for IoT, zooom and Wabion – not too long ago – created a live tracking system for the Red Bull X-Alps alpine adventure race in less than three months. Pretty much the same challenge as we face with our alpine and cross country/ biathlon teams to be able to support them towards the World Championchips.…]

Yes, Google is fashion forward for sure in all tech areas. Everything around us is moving so fast that we easily walk from being first inventing something – to realising that someone else did it overnight when we slept. So we can no longer sleep.
I just read in Scientific American that robots now are self taught – artificially intelligent machines are starting to learn spontaneously, maybe this is what is giving Elon Musk the chills! I must say that I am fascinated by it, and I would not mind have one of my own.

Google has recently showed what Google’s assistant is now able to do: it can make phone calls and, accessing the schedule of its owner, it can book appointments for them. Imagine how incredible it would be to use a similar tool during sports events? For example, you could ask a virtual assistant what a player is doing, where he is positioned on the field, or what his contribution to the[]

This is only one example of how machine learning and artificial intelligence can be used to bring contents to fans in a completely new and innovative way. However, there are several other situations where they can contribute to improve the videos that are shown during a match. In fact, these algorithms are able to automatically select the camera that shows the best view of the game or even select the shots so that the attention is focused on your favourite team’s actions. Sounds good if you are watching!
All these features will allow us to involve even more people in sports events, making their experience unique and personalized!

Moreover, the broad usage of these technologies allows anybody, from amateur to professional athletes, to access information about their performance during a training session.
But have you ever wondered if those data are accurate? This is an important issue,[]

Nowadays, the state of art of wearable technologies opens the possibility to get a huge amount of data, since wearing sensors during the whole day allows to monitor several parameters. Moreover, the broad usage of these technologies allows anybody, from amateur to professional athletes, to access information about their performance during a training session.
But have you ever wondered if those data are accurate? This is an important issue, since companies that produce wearables should make sure that the information that their devices provide is not misleading.
Moreover, wouldn’t you like to make the best use out of those data, being able to fully understand their meaning? Wearables cannot provide the mere values that have been measured, but they should be able to give recommendations to the users.
This is the direction that has to be taken in the future in order to improve these technologies and artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques represent a powerful tool to reach this goal, allowing the management and analysis of all these data.
In the project we aim to create solutions for both top athletes and public health – our project wants to be one of the powerful tools in this.

Think about all the different aspects that influence an athlete´s performance: being a champion is not only about having good physical skills, but it is also important to have a correct nutrition, mental abilities and support from technology.
In the scientific world, all the parameters that influence the performance have to be objective and therefore it is important to be able to measure them. The current state of art from a technological point of view allows us to get information even about emotions, using techniques that study the brain! These powerful means can be used to monitor states of fear or anger in athletes and implantable wearable devices will play an important role in this in the future! Nu grundar vi projektets tre flaggskepp! Först ut är State of the Q som vi ska driva tillsammans med Ski Team Sweden Alpine och innovationssystemet bland annat. Ski Team Sweden har redan etablerat ett utmärkt initiativ i Ski Equality och nu hakar vi på detta!
Aktiviteten kräver en del omvärldsbevakning. Jag kan snabbt konstatera att överallt i världen genomförs olika initiativ med att locka tjejer till tech-yrken.

Samma problem finns överallt, eller samma möjlighet, hur man nu väljer att se på utmaningen – att få fler tjejer till forskning, teknologi och innovationsyrken. Många kvinnor går tekniska utbildningar men arbetar inte som konstruktörer el uppfinnare. Studier visar att kvinnor som gått teknikyrken oftast jobbar som projektledare.

Endast 6 % av alla patent som lämnas in är inlämnade av kvinnor, en siffra som sett likadan ut i nästan 20 år. Statistiken visar också att många kvinnor som går tekniska utbildningar också tyvärr hoppar av.

Varför hoppar man av, undrar jag – kanske kan det handla om att kvinnor och män faktiskt är ganska olika. Jag är långt ifrån en feminist men tror ändå på att utbildningar som ska locka tjejer också måste skapas av tjejer tillsammans med killar vilket inte görs i så stor utsträckning.

För det handlar om utformningen av en produkt eller som Einstain en gång sa,”Världen vi har skapat är en produkt av vårt tänkande, och den kan inte förändras utan att vi förändrar vårt tänkande.”

Det fungerar så i även utbildningar, speciellt om vi verkligen vill locka tjejer till tech-yrken. Jag tror också att det är viktigt att vi har med oss och kan involvera ett stort nätverk av både manliga och kvinnliga forskare, företagare och entreprenörer.
Låt oss se vad vi kan förändra!
