180628 Elon Musk and I

I am sure it means something!
Today it is our birthday, Elon and I – even though I never celebrate birthdays. I just cannot see anything fun with those. They can never measure up to meeting a new life form, a new robot, playing around with a brand new technology that screams back at you – just the thought of technology screaming back at me makes me excited!

Yes, my team will notice that they dont hear from me on their birthdays – but they hear from me when it comes to the great work that they do, in that case we can celebrate every day! (but lets not go overboard, cakes will make you slow, and slow is not an option here)
So Elon….developing exciting technology going out in space, we both have an interest in rockets and space! I have caused many explosions in the uni-lab, and Elon is causing them when shooting up rockets and space crafts!
I am sure that the future will tell that we are very much alike in our minds, and that our generation truly is the ground breaking generation, that I so often write about.
Yes, how true.

180626 Our snowboard project – not for the faint hearted?

Have you ever seen what snowboarders can do when they perform in freestyle competitions? The tricks they can do are incredible and their jumps are huge… and risky!
But don´t we all like a bit of a risk….?
🙂
Well, risky can be harmful. That’s why our team wants to prevent injuries in this kind of discipline, and commercialize the results. We are studying the trajectory of snowboarders during jumps, from the inrun to the landing, helping constructors to design safer jumps. We have to take into account different parameters, from snow/snowboard interaction to air friction, from take-off velocity to wind speed, but this challenges make the project even more exciting for us! We can’t wait to give our contribution to making snowboarders and fans enjoy spectacular jumps in safer conditions!

In September our US intern, Lars Hallstrom from Michigan, will join our case-team for snowboard and I am looking forward to welcoming him to Åre.

180625 Can sleep give you super powers?

How much power do I gain if I sleep right?
Like….will I become Superwoman?
I was just thinking about how much we humans sleep, but I realized that my cats sleep 16 hours when I sleep 8 only. I was also thinking about being “jet-legged”. I always get that “thing” when I travel between Sweden and the US, my sleep is a mess and my head goes round[]

I always get that “thing” when I travel between Sweden and the US, my sleep is a mess and my head goes round like a ping-pong-ball. Sleep is crucial.

And now the next big high tech moment is here!
Sleepscore has launched their mobile app!
It is designed for “sleep-tracking” by using your smartphone´s microphone and speaker to detect sleep patterns. I like it a lot! Sleepscore is a part of a digital health movement.
Soccer player Christiano Ronaldo has signed on to endorse Sleepscore Labs, and who knows, I might find my way in:-)

Sleep is very important, just as much as exercise and nutrition. How you sleep will impact everything you do in life, how you perform at school, at work or in sports.

Tons of data is collected, then the AI selects what it needs for each answer or claim in the debate. And it owns!

180623 World Cup over a burger

Lots in the pipeline!
I just saw that McDonald´s restaurants here in Sweden have signed a deal with Red Bee Media to execute live coverage of the World Cup in soccer while you eat. Swell!
“Every game is being streamed in high-definition using media company’s over-the-top (OTT) platform, which uses modular management and microservices architecture, operated in the cloud, to enable both flexibility and scalability.”

Eyes and cameras on the World Cup!
The World Cup is starting tomorrow and we are all waiting for the first match between Russia and Saudi Arabia! Besides fans, coaches and referees that will keep their eyes on the players during the whole competition – advanced technological tools will help them making their best and, since we love talking about sports technologies in our blog, we want to describe some of the most interesting tools that will be used.

First of all, goal-line technology, that makes use of information gathered from 14 high-speed cameras, will allow to determine if the ball crossed the goal line. This is not something completely new, since this technology has already been used in the previous World Cup, in Brazil. What is completely new, instead, is VAR, the video assistant referee. This tool makes videos available to a referee that, watching carefully at the action, can give advice to his colleague placed on the field. The videos are also enriched with computer-generated lines that, projected onto the image, make it easier to determine the offside position.

Finally, every team’s technical and medical staff will be able to access positional data from two optical tracking cameras together with videos from tactical cameras. Information will be delivered in real-time, allowing coaches to quickly change their strategy and adapt it to the game.

We hope that these technologies will make the competitions even more enjoyable and dynamic. May the best team win!

Yes, we are fans of insoles, they are part of our case with Ski Team Sweden. Our cases have one high performance part for top athletes and one that is scaled down for exercise. Apps are not only cool, they are very useful for anybody that wants to have fun while exercising.
Edgar Alvarez writes on Engadget:
Two years ago, at CES 2016, we found a pair of smart shoes that could be “laced” by simply tapping a virtual button on a smartphone app. Now, the company behind those sneakers, Zhor Tech, has brought its latest creation to CES 2018: a connected shoe insole. The device is loaded with sensors that count your steps, detect your fatigue levels, analyze your posture and detect any rough vibrations around you. Zhor Tech says that its Safety insole was designed specifically for people who work in construction and other field jobs.
If someone slips, for instance, the insole can detect that and alert a manager or supervisor. Of course, the whole system comes together in an app, where users can view detailed, real-time information and share it with other people. The same technology can be built into a shoe’s midsole, according to Zhor Tech, but right now there are only plans to sell the insole to companies that make safety-conscious footwear.

180606 The interactive stadium

Sports technology is very important, also for the viewer. The first months of 2018 the big media companies have invested more than ever into the viewer experience. My thoughts are going to our own arenas in Aare and Oestersund now when we are hosting two World Championships in the region, the alpine and the biathlon WC.
