The more I read about sensors, the more I understand that we will see many more injury detecting and preventing sensors – in all kinds of sports. These sensors will have two main functions:
1. Detect injury when it has occurred.
2. Monitor an athlete’s movements and warn them about an impeding injury.
I think that sounds pretty perfect!
Athletes can then seek early treatment or adjust their movements to prevent injury, but I also see this as a great help for people who exercise. I got the link below, if you want to read more about it.

Technology is going to bring a huge innovation in the management and use of gyms! Owners and employees can now use their laptops, tablets or smartphones to keep track of when, for how long and how their equipment is being used during one day, several days or even months. This allows you to monitor if your treadmill is being used, how much weight is being lifted by a certain person and even how many people have attended a certain class. The information can be collected easily and you can make use of the data to better understand if you are making the most of your gym!

The Cybathlon is a competition for challenged people, who, supported by some of the most advanced assistive devices (powered prostheses, powered wheelchairs etc) take part of different kinds of disciplines, trying to be the best in performing tasks that they have to face in the everyday life.
This event represents an opportunity for athletes to show their skills, motivate other people to overcome or minimize disabilities and put attention[]

One of the goals of our Internet of Sports project is to contribute to public health.
I have always been into competitive sports, I started when I was 2 years old and continued with several different sports and also studied to become a physical trainer. Sports on all levels is a lifestyle, and if you are a part of this lifestyle it all natural – you just do it!
Sports has a great advantage – it does not have to be tough or competitive, it can be just be walking or jogging half an hour a day.
But you need to get your heart pumping. Circulate!
Circulation is the key, and it is also about living a nice life being able to do what you really want because you are healthy and can do so.

Adults participating in a high overall level of sports and exercise are at 34 % lower risk of dealth according to “The Conversation”, than those who never or rarely engage in such activities. This generic evidence, however, does not imply that all sports equally affect health. Some sports might be more efficient than others.

Recreating pitches with mechanical devices or videos doesn’t allow to represent the whole complexity of the pitcher’s and ball’s movements. This is where virtual reality joins the game!

EON Reality and EON Sports have developed a VR batting simulator that helps batters improving their pitch recognition skills. Pitch data have been collected from real professional players, making the product as realistic and reliable as possible. The Tampa Bay Rays improved their home-runs and runs performance in the 2016 season, after training with this system: virtual realiy is training the current and future baseball champions!

I was just taking a look at sports arenas to see what we can learn from the world. It is all very high tech, but I like it – and would like to see it at our home arena in Ostersund, Sweden. We just need a lot more funds, and I do believe that investors could be interested in high tech and futuristic designs – so please be more brave! Like I always say….it is about mentality.

180718 More high tech, but simple…sensors in your mouth might make sports safer!

Are you competing or exercising to stay healthy? When I write my posts, I try talking about as many sports as possible, so that I can target as many people as possible and make you all get closer to sports and physical exercise. Today I want to introduce to our readers a device that can be used for different activities, from soccer to rugby, from boxing to mixed martial arts.[]

When I write my posts, I try talking about as many sports as possible, so that I can target as many people as possible and make you all get closer to sports and physical exercise. Today I want to introduce to our readers a device that can be used for different activities, from soccer to rugby, from boxing to mixed martial arts. What do all these sports have in common?
They are fun and challenging, they keep you in shape and give you the possibility to meet new people, but they are also exposed to the risk of brain injuries. There are different technological solutions on the market that monitor concusssion’s risk: they provide information about it using LED and they are usually placed on your head.

FITGuard though, offers a different approach. In this case, sensors are placed on the mouthguard, and it is not there for you to chew on them!
Since clinical studies suggest that this positioning, as opposed to placing an accessory on a helmet or a chinstrap, guarantees a higher correlation to the center of gravity of the brain. This device measures linear and angular accelerations and compares them with values stored in a database. The information can be adapted to the users, according to their age, weight and gender and showed in an app, where the whole registry can be seen by the athlete, coaches and parents/ family. This is a great device that allows people to enjoy their sports in safety, without renouncing to the fun!

Today I want to write about an unusual competition! Hot dog eating contests! What do you think if I say that sensors are the special ingredient?
Well, I am not talking about eating sensors, but somebody has thought about using them in order to make these competitions even more enjoyable, like spices in Indian food! Every year, on the[]

What do you think about “hot dog eating contests”?
Today I want to write about an unusual competition! Hot dog eating contests! What do you think if I say that sensors are the special ingredient?
Well, I am not talking about eating sensors, but somebody has thought about using them in order to make these competitions even more enjoyable, like spices in Indian food! Every year, on the 4th of July, Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest takes place. This year, Joey Chestnut ate 64 hot dogs in 10 minutes, winning the competition. After a review, though, an error in the counting was found: the winner had actually eaten 74 hot dogs, breaking the world record! This mistake made Rich Shea, Major League Eating president, think of bringing technological solutions to this contest. Shea suggested different ideas, even joking about putting microchips on the tongue or inside the hot dogs!

No solution has been found yet (if you come up with a good idea, you could contact Mr. Shea!), but the reason why I wrote this post is actually to make you think about the impact that technology has got in our lives: it is such a big impact that everybody, not only scientists, is willing to welcome new technologies in EVERY possible field, even when it comes to hot dog eating contests. This means that we got to a point where people are so open to new technologies that it should not be difficult to make them understand and embrace any new product or solution that is coming out!

Here some great scenes from the development testing today at the upcoming World Championships arena, Stadium in Oestersund. Doctor Benedikt Fasel is attaching one of the sensors on ski-university biathlon athlete Johan Bergman’s rifle, making sure that it is placed in an optimal position, avoiding bad-signal reception and encumbrance for the athlete while he shoots. Today I want to talk about one of my biggest passions: skateboarding. When possible, I practice it myself and those who have tried performing tricks know the strong commitment that is required in this discipline. Learning a new trick means repeating the same movements for days, weeks or even months.

Since I like tech gadgets, in particular for sports, I wondered if somebody has ever developed a device to help skateboarders improve their skills[]

Since I like tech gadgets, in particular for sports, I wondered if somebody has ever developed a device to help skateboarders improve their skills and I found something very interesting! RideBlock produces sensors that can be easily placed between the board and the trucks, in order to monitor the movements. The data are then analyzed, allowing the recognition of the trick that you have performed and giving plenty of information about it (for example the height or the flight time of your ollie). All these data are sent to your mobile app, where you can keep track of your sessions. This can be an awesome tool for skateboarders at any level to improve their technique, but the good news don’t finish here!

Roam robotics has developed a ski exoskeleton that, acting on the knees, can assist skiers during their activity, allowing them to access more challenging slopes, making their turns stronger and guaranteeing higher safety. Such a great device can make athletes, from amateur to elite level, enjoy the sport even more!

This product is also an amazing example of technological innovations. A software, making use of machine learning algorithms, analyzes the data collected by sensors and can quickly take a decision on the action that is required. The decision is then communicated to actuators that can start assisting the skier even before the beginning of a turn. Moreover, the whole system is made of light materials, making the total weight very low.
