Team-event – today the alpine skiing team-event took place in Åre in the World Championship: the best skiers competed for their national teams on a slalom course. This is a very exciting and challenging event! The course is very short (it took around 25 seconds for each skier to get to the finish line), meaning that the time difference between two athletes competing in the same run is often just a few hundreds of a second. The smallest details can make a big difference. This is where the technologies that our project is developing for Ski Team Sweden can be beneficial for the athletes: our system allows to track the position of the skier on the slope and have a detailed insight of their performance. For example, we are able to provide the speed of the athlete along the whole slope, the timings between two gates, the turn radius at each gate and many other parameters. Moreover, we can compare data among skiers, giving the coaches a tool to take the best out of each athlete.
Today Ski Team Sweden did great, but unfortunately was beaten by the unstoppable Suisse team, which won the gold. I can now go home happy, since the Italian team won the bronze medal: good job!
